| Reverend Jean Holmes |
|
|
In 1997, not far removed from my life as a bank examiner, I was invited to attend the Star Knowledge Conference in Estes Park, Colorado by Chelsea Flor (http://www.myspace.com/chelseaflor) (more about Chelsea at in a future post...what an amazing soul) who was the keynote speaker for the event. I sat through the entire series of lectures, speaker after speaker, trying to take it all in. There was some amazing information shared. I did my best to grasp whatever my then current consciousness would allow.
The MC at the event was someone I had never met. Someone by the name of Reverend Jean Holmes. After Chelsea's wrap-up, there was a drumming and time to interact. That is when Reverend Holmes, speaking to me for the first time, said to me: I want to thank you for what you were doing. You helped ground the energy of this conference.
Her comments caught me off-guard. I didn't know she had even noticed me nor did I think I really deserved any thanks. I was grateful to have been in attendance at the conference. While she may not even recall the interaction, it was significant for me. At the time I was feeling lost and out of place, but her comments to me let me know that I was following the right path and that someone recognized the work I was doing.
It was long time before I reconnected with Rev. Holmes. In the ensuing years, I had much personal work to do. I had been exposed to a lot of new ideas (new to me) in a relatively short period of time and I had to integrate the information and learn to live with my new consciousness. As I began to resurface into the world, I was able to locate Rev. Holmes and we exchanged a few emails. Not surprisingly, she offered more encouragement. More recently, I was excited to hear from Rev. Holmes that she had an interview available online. You can listen to the interview at this web site: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Ilumine-Ao. Look for the interview with Rev. Holmes.
As you listen to the interview, please pay special attention to her statements about the importance of connecting with one's inner child.......this directly relates to the reason I chose, as part of the motto of my web site, "connecting with the past".
After listening to the interview, I realized why I had originally connected with her and had more recently reconnected with Rev. Holmes. So much of the information she shares matches the information I had been exposed to and had begun to teach. I am extremely honored to have even the slightest association with her. Please check out her web site at: www.higherwisdom.com. |

| What to expect. |
|
|
If you call me for assistance with something in your life, here is what you might expect.
The first session may be of some length. I want to get to know you and get to know the patterns in your life. This is important as we move forward because it will help me recognize blockages.
I will ask you to keep a dream journal. Dreams are your Spirit's way of conveying information to you in a very personalized way. It will also correspond with what is happening in your life.
I will ask you to become familiar with the chakra system. If you sign up for my newsletter, you will be automatically redirected to a page with a primer on the chakras. I use the chakra system as a way to convey information. It is a way for me to put into words those things that are difficult to comprehend.
In subsequent sessions, I will build on what we have previously discussed.
Don't expect a psychic reading per se, although I sometimes get images or messages that will help me bring out something that is deeply buried. I will convey these to the best of my abilities.
Ultimately, my goal is to assist someone to get to a place where they are standing on their own, connected to their own guidance and following the beat of their own drum. |

| Rates |
|
|
In addition to the travel and consulting, I have a custom carpentry and painting business. It is something I enjoy. But I only enjoy it when I am doing it for people who really appreciate good work. There are some people that I discourage from hiring me because I know they are just looking to get by. They really don't have an appreciation for the final product.
On the other hand, I do what I can to encourage people who DO appreciate good work. I know they will be happy, even if they can't afford to pay me the going rate. I know that they will tell their friends. I know that it will pay off to work for them. And I tell those people, don't worry about the cost, I want to do the work. I have told some people to let me complete the work and then they can decide after the fact what it was worth to them. This is such a different mentality for most, sometimes it is really difficult to convince these people. Sometimes they insist on a price. So I give them something, but I don't hold them to it. It is more important that I am working for people that appreciate the work I do.
That is how I view the consulting work. I know there are people charging outrageous sums of money. Don't get me wrong, I like to earn a nice living, but my approach is different than most. I want to help those who are willing to work at self improvement and are willing to put forth the effort and want to really make a difference.
So, as of now, I don't have a set rate. I want to help those who want to learn and grow. I don't have any idea what each person can afford. And I don't want to miss the opportunity to help someone I could have helped. |

| Shamanism |
|
|
I have had individuals ask me, "With whom have you studied?" or "What tradition have you studied?"
While I understand where these questions are coming from, to me, they miss the point. Traditions are important and I honor those traditions. Without traditions being kept alive and passed down, much information would have been lost and would not have been available today, when it is so needed.
At the same time a student of shamanism must, at some point, make it personal. By that I mean that you have to live it. Then, when you teach, it comes from a place of experience and not from a place of something learned from someone else. It becomes much more effective. As I have traveled throughout indigenous areas, I have come across people who are making it their own. They are taking what they have been taught and are learning to share it from a space that is theirs alone. It comes from their own learning and experiencing, not from a place of solely passing on what has been taught to them.
That is where true teaching takes place, helping another to open up and experience for themselves. At that point, the "tradition" takes on less importance. What becomes important is the individual experience.
There is only one question one needs ask themself when assessing a teacher, "Is this person helping me along my path?" |
